Canadian Dollar FX Morning Update February 13, 2014
USD/CAD Open: 1.1001-1.1003 Overnight Range: 1.0976-1.1026
The Canadian dollar was rangebound in overnight currency exchange markets. Oil is at $99.76 and gold is at $1,292. US futures are lower. Today, US retail sales data is released.
The short term Canadian dollar technicals are bearish. For today, USD resistance is at 1.1180 and 1.1260. Support is at 1.0890 and 1.0610.
Weekly jobless claims and retail sales will be the data pieces that will be focused on today. Poor US numbers could help the loonie. The Canadian dollar has regained some ground over the last few weeks. The key themes for the Canadian dollar continue to be interest rate expectations in Canada, the inflation outlook, and the economy.
